Bio

EN    Fabien Roy is a swiss product designer and architect graduated in from University of Applied Sciences and Arts, Fribourg (BA Architecture, 2006) and ECAL / University of Art and Design, Lausanne (MA Product Design, 2020). After working more than ten years as an architect, he set up his own design studio. The uniqueness of his practice is to propose holistic solutions from furniture to industrial design as well as interior architecture.

Originally from and living in the Swiss Jura Mountains, he developed a strong connection with nature. His design look upon societal and environmental matters responsibly. To achieve that goal, his work pushes the boundaries by evolving at the crossroads of interdisciplinary collaborations such art, science, craft and new technologies.

Winner of the Design Prize Switzerland, the James Dyson Award Switzerland and nominated twice for the Swiss Design Awards, his work has been exhibited around the world including Milan Design Week, Art Basel, Dubai Design Week, Dutch Design Week or Maison & Objet Paris.

In 2022, Roy founded RISOU, a project dedicated to the development of wooden furniture made and sourced locally from the region where he is based in Switzerland. Some of his pieces were acquired by the Mudac, Museum of Contemporary Design and Applied Arts Lausanne for its permanent collection.

Since 2023, Roy is occasionally invited as an external assessor in various universities, notably in the product design dept. at ECAL / University of Art and Design, Lausanne and in the architecture dept. at EPFL / Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, Lausanne.

FR    Fabien Roy est un architecte et designer de produits diplômé de la Haute école d’Ingénierie et d’Architecture de Fribourg (BA Architecture, 2006) et de l'ECAL / Haute école d'art et de design de Lausanne (MA Product Design, 2020). Après avoir travaillé plus de dix ans en tant qu'architecte chef de projet, en 2020 il crée son propre atelier. L'unicité de sa pratique est de proposer des solutions complètes allant du mobilier à l'architecture d'intérieur en passant par le design industriel.

Originaire du Jura vaudois, où il vit depuis toujours, il a développé avec le temps un lien fort avec la nature. Son travail aborde les questions sociétales et environnementales de manière responsable. Pour atteindre cet objectif, son approche repousse les limites en évoluant au carrefour de collaborations interdisciplinaires telles que l'art, la science, l'artisanat et les nouvelles technologies.

Lauréat du Design Prize Switzerland, du James Dyson Award Switzerland et nommé deux fois aux Swiss Design Awards, son travail a été exposé dans le monde entier, notamment à la Milan Design Week, à la Dubai Design Week, à la Dutch Design Week ou à Maison & Objet Paris.

En 2022, il fonde RISOU, un projet dédié au développement de meubles en bois fabriqués et sourcés localement dans la région où il est basé en Suisse. Certaines pièces ont été acquises par le Mudac, Musée de design contemporain et d'arts appliqués de Lausanne, pour sa collection permanente.

Depuis 2023, Roy est occasionnellement invité comme expert externe dans diverses universités, notamment dans le département de design de produits à l'ECAL / Haute école d'art et de design, Lausanne et dans le département d'architecture à l'EPFL / École polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne.
