A Japanese woodwork made of elastic Akita cedar that is shaved thin, softened with boiling water, rolled into a cylindrical shape and glued together. It has long been used for bento boxes, rice bowls, and cooked rice containers, and is characterized by its lightness and the fragrance of the wood. Although located on opposite sides of the planet, Japanese cedar and Swiss spruce share some properties. Their fine, regular, knot-free grain is the result of slow growth in the harsh climate of northern Japan and the Swiss Jura mountains. Both species are coniferous trees suitable for bending and are non-toxic for food contact. Together, Kurikyu, a long-established manufacturer of Magewappa and Roy decided to explore their common passion for softwood bending through product development. A residency in Odate (Akita Prefecture) allowed Roy to immerse himself in Kurikyu’s fascinating world.The result proposes a selection of products made both of Japanese Cedar and Swiss spruce, made both in Japan and Switzerland. A collection of bowls, cups, jugs and trays are worked in their simplest formal expression. The joint is deliberately visible to fully express the technique used. Light fitting explore new typologie not explored in Magewappa, traditionally limited to tableware. The translucent structure of the wood is subtly revealed by the light. This work was exhibited at Swissnex in Osaka in November 2024. FR &nbsp;&nbsp; Le contexte multiculturel de cette collaboration explore le Magewappa. Il s'agit d'une technique japonaise artisanale pour la conception d’objets fabriqués à partir de cèdre d'Akita résistant qui est finement raboté, assoupli dans l'eau bouillante, puis moulé en forme cylindrique et collé. Il est utilisé depuis longtemps pour les boîtes bento, les bols à riz et les récipients pour le riz cuit et se caractérise par sa légèreté et le parfum du bois. Bien que situés à l’opposé de la planète, le cèdre japonais et l'épicéa suisse partagent certaines propriétés. Leur grain fin, régulier et sans nœud est le résultat d'une croissance lente dans le climat rude du nord du Japon et du Jura suisse. Ces deux essences sont des conifères adaptés au cintrage et non toxiques pour le contact alimentaire. Kurikyu, maître artisan en Magewappa réputé à l’international et Fabien Roy ont décidé d'explorer ensemble leur passion pour le cintrage du bois via le design de produits. Une résidence à Odate (préfecture d'Akita) a permis à Fabien Roy de s'immerger dans le monde fascinant de Kurikyu. Le résultat propose une sélection de produits en cèdre japonais et en épicéa suisse, fabriqués à la fois au Japon et en Suisse. Une collection de bols, de tasses, de pichets et de plateaux sont travaillés dans leur plus simple expression formelle. Le &nbsp;joint est délibérément visible pour exprimer pleinement la technique utilisée. Un luminaire explore une nouvelle typologie issue du Magewappa, traditionnellement limité aux arts de la table. La structure translucide du bois est subtilement révélée par la lumière. The first impression must immerse the user in the atmosphere of the place, its DNA. This space also responds to the needs of the local population. This meeting place is able to offer certain services (postal service, pop-up store) by incorporating a high degree of flexibility into the layout of the space. The building also includes offices for staff and a large conference room.The project proposes to highlight the themes specific to the site. References to the region are subtly reflected in the materials, shapes and furniture.The non-invasive approach involves leaving the building's load-bearing structure and facade untouched. The furnishings are designed to be light, mobile and completely detached from the walls and ceilings. The space can be reconfigured as required. FR &nbsp;&nbsp; Un office de tourisme est la carte de visite et la porte d’entrée d’une région pour les visiteurs. La première impression doit permettre d’immerger l’utilisateur dans l’athmosphère du lieu, son ADN. Cet espace répond également aux besoins de la population locale. Ce lieu de rencontre est en mesure d’offrir certains services (service postal, pop-up store) en intégrant une grande souplesse dans l’aménagement des locaux. En outre, l’espace comprend des bureaux pour le personnel ainsi qu’une grande salle de conférence. Le projet propose de mettre en valeur les thématiques propres au lieu. Les références en lien avec la région se retrouvent dans les matériaux, les formes et le mobilier de manière subtile. L’approche peu invasive consiste à ne pas toucher à la structure porteuse et l’enveloppe du bâtiment. L’aménagement est conçu sous forme d’agencement léger, mobile et complètement détaché des murs et plafonds. Federal Institute of Technology, EPFL EN&nbsp; &nbsp; According to UNICEF, every year in sub-Saharan Africa, 1.1 million newborns die of hypothermia during their first month of life. Existing newborn incubators in industrialized countries cannot fulfill the technical specifications of this context. The main causes are their inability to provide heat during frequent power outages and their vulnerability to high humidity rates, dust and high temperatures (not weatherproof). Developed in collaboration with EPFL’s Essential Tech Center, “Robust Nest” is a newborn incubator adapted to the context of district hospitals in sub-Saharan countries. Compact, robust and affordable, “Robust Nest” allows the transport of patients in vehicles, resists frequent power cuts thanks to a special thermal battery developed by EPFL and is characterized by components that can be easily replaced. The second major formal element is the alcove-shaped headboard, which creates a more intimate area at head level for falling asleep in a cocoon. The balance between wood and textile offers both a sense of comfort and a unique piece of furniture. Although the original version of the Saint-George bed comes in fir green, blue-grey and burgundy, other shades of both fabric and wood can be chosen on request thanks to Elite's expertise. The version of the bed shown below is a tailor-made version for a high-end hotel in Switzerland, made from felt and grey lacquered wood. FR &nbsp; &nbsp;Le lit Saint-George propose une esthétique marquée par des pieds fins inspiré de l’univers du fauteuil afin d'alléger la manière dont l'objet repose sur le sol. In 1944, Hans Hilfiker created a station clock by proposing a smooth sweeping second hand system among others innovations. This iconic reference of Swiss design celebrate this year its 75th Anniversary.This installation is an hommage to this clock through a contemporary reinterpretation of the traditional swiss automated clock. The proposal is a performance through an interaction between a robotic arm developed by ABB Robotic (historical partner) and the clock. FR &nbsp; &nbsp;La compagnie des chemins de fer fédéraux suisses est synonyme de ponctualité et de technologies de pointe.&nbsp;En 1944, Hans Hilfiker a créé une horloge de gare iconique en proposant, entre autres innovations, un système de mouvement fluide de la trotteuse.
