Sawdust research — Sawdust-based products research
The industrial waste reclamation is a source of benefit from both economic and environmental field. I propose a reflection on the untapped (or insufficiently exploited) material by the wood industry.
The idea is to use sawdust or chips as aggregates to mix with a binder to obtain a mass to mold. After many tests done, the ideal mass contains about 95% wood and 5% clay. Everything is bonded with water. The manufacturing process is energy efficient because it does not require any oven for curing and no artificial additives.
The rendering of the material is very interesting because, combining with the particle size of the sawdust or chip, one can vary its density and thus its monolithic appearance. By the same technique we can influence on its roughness and its touch rather mineral or vegetal. These variations promise a great source of exploration.
